Thermal Pools

Whenever we are in the Rotorua area, we try to stop at the Waikite Valley for a nice soak in one of the Thermal Pools. Powered by the Te Manaroa Spring – the largest single source of 100% pure geothermal water in New Zealand.

This hottest spring in New Zealand streams at a 40 to 50 later rate per second at 96°C.  After cooling  -you can see how this is done by following the eco-trail-  this, now cooled thermal water is fed into the pools; no chemicals, nor filtered or recycled. The ‘Living Waters’ of Waikite Valley is the only thermal pool complex of this size in New Zealand using only 100% pure natural geothermal water.

Relax in one of the soft calcite-laden mineral water pools with temperatures between 35-40°Celsius, overlooking the beautiful (steamy) valley! There are even private pools to relax in (optional).

Click on the picture on the right to see the mineral analyses of these ‘living waters’ and remember, it is advised to keep your head above water.

Campground & Thermal Pools

You can just go to relax in the pools, but why not stay the night on one of the 28 sites next to the pool complex. The pools are open to the general public from 10 am, but when you stay at the campground you are allowed in form 6.00am!

There are some facilities like shower, laundry and kitchens plus a thermally-heated drying room, drinking water available for campers to use during their stay, but no dump station.

Campground check-in is from  2.00pm with check-out 11.00am on the day of departure. We strongly advise making reservations as soon as you know when you want to be there, you can understand this is a very popular campground!
